Tech leaders have written an open letter to the UN asking for a ban on lethal autonomous weapons which, they state, could permit armed conflict to be fought at a scale greater than ever, and at timescales faster than humans can comprehend. Tesla’s Elon Musk, Google’s Mustafa Suleyman are among 116 of the world’s leading robotics and artificial intelligence pioneers who have come together to write an open letter to the UN asking for a ban on the development and use of autonomous weaponry.

 A consortium of industry, government and academic partners are building a new £65m digital aviation research facility at Cranfield University. The Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC) will focus on emerging aerospace challenges such as the integration of drones into civilian airspace, embedding technology into airport infrastructure, and providing self-sensing capabilities for aircraft.

Finnish Defence Forces to invest in tactical data transfer products
The Finnish Minister of Defence, Jussi Niinistö, has authorised Finnish Defence Forces to purchase Bittium Tactical Wireless IP Network (TAC WIN) system products. Bittium and Finnish Defence Forces plan to sign a Framework Agreement for the delivery of Bittium TAC WIN products, that covers years 2018-2020, with the total value of the agreement being €30m.
